Biography

Wanjidari

Leanne 'Wanjidari' Reid, the Aboriginal artist with the tribal name which translates as 'Little White Flower', has a unique and contemporary style that translates ancient stories to canvas. Born in 1965 into the Wadja Wadja tribe, she was brought up among her own people in Woorabinda (her mother’s country) and Lockhart River (her father’s country). In the forests, caves and on the Great Barrier Reef, she has found beauty in simple things. She has bought them to life on canvas in the traditional way of her people...with storytelling as old as the Dreamtime, and as enduring as time itself.

Wanjidari was formally trained as an artist in the Aboriginal and Islander Art Course at the Far North Queensland College of T.A.F.E. in Cairns. She learnt to combine traditional Aboriginal style and design with modern techniques and materials. The results have made her paintings sought-after collectors' pieces in Australia and overseas.
